1、英文第一句和第二句（即对应中文的第一句），似乎用从句合并为一句，更好一些，更符合英语表达方式。

即改为：

“Forest, whose functions in improving environment and maintaining ecological balance are crucial, is the principal part of the terrestrial ecosystem. ”


2、“当前，有关森林生态效益补偿机制的研究是林业可持续发展进程中的重大课题。”
“The research on the payment mechanism of forest ecological compensation is an important part for the sustainable development of forest.”

这句话的“当前”没有翻译出来。另外，后面的“重大课题”也没有翻译出来。这句话的汉语的意思是“...研究是...重大课题”，而英文的翻译是“...研究是...可持续发展的重要组成部分”。好象翻译的意思上变了。
